This is a good analysis. The tl;dr version: It's a different show from
the first few seasons. I mused on twitter that it was a drama show that had some action and has turned into an action movie with little drama. To combine mine and his more eloquent thread, the show was set-up with a ton of drama/dialogue (the talk) and now it has to bring an end to a million different plot lines through action (the walk). The show talked the talk in about 5 1/2 to 6 seasons and now it is trying to walk the walk in 13 episodes.
The problem is, everyone loved the intricate stories with crazy plot twists. Most people don't like the dramatic cut in bringing everything back together. They (GRRM and Showrunners) let the story get crazy out of control with no plan to reign it in and now are sacrificing a lot of what made the show great, the human interaction with more than crazy action sequences.
